I started with Sodexo Allentown's dietetic internship program this September. I completed my training then headed to Lehigh Valley Hospital to begin my rotations. It was a rough start. LVH is a huge hospital and for someone with slight anxiety issues, the hospital is a bit overwhelming. I loved everyone I worked with there and will be back there next week in their outpatient Diabetes office, but the inpatient setting threw me for a loop. In addition, the commute was a killer. I commuted at least two hours each day and when I moved into my cardiology rotation, the commute became even longer. I've mentioned my back problems before...obviously my back was not a fan of this commute either.
After conversations with my director and the local Clinical Nutrition Manager at Phoenixville Hospital, we decided that it would make more sense to have me work locally and simply commute for my outpatient Diabetes rounds. I am now working out of Phoenixville Hospital and am much happier. I know so many people there, work side-by-side with a very good friend of mine, and have a 10 minute round-trip commute. I am also able to participate in more local community events and volunteer with the outpatient Diabetes programs right in my own town. I love the feeling of giving back to my local community.
This week was my first week at Phoenixville Hospital...and what a busy week it was. I was at the hospital for four days, presented at a Diabetes support class on Tuesday evening, attended two health fairs on Wednesday, spoke to a group at the Senior Center on Thursday morning, and was interviewed on a local radio station on Friday afternoon. Although I still battled some anxiety and pain, I feel like a conquered the world this week!
For the first time in a long time I feel like I am back on track. I am also maintaining my weight nicely at 154 and cannot wait to look stunning in my wedding dress. I promise to post pictures of the event.
