When we arrived at the resort, we drove up to a security gate where we were greeted by a very nice gentleman who confirmed our reservation and directed us to the main building. From that moment on, everything ran like clockwork. The bellmen greeted us by name as they opened our doors and took the luggage from our car, the receptionist checked us in and handed us our bags and water bottles for our stay, and we were given a quick tour of the facility to make us feel right at home.
We started our afternoon in the lounge where we relaxed with coffee, then headed to the lobby to play with the giant set of glass chakra bowls, sending sounds of beautiful energy throughout the main floor. After a little play time, we attended our first class, "Journaling for Self-Discovery." Fay and I sat in wooden rockers near the large backyard fire pit, surrounded by towering trees, colorful flowers, and and an intense blue sky while we wrote. Although it took a few minutes to clear my writers block, the words and tears eventually began to flow. Apparently I was in the mood to cleanse! I felt both exhausted and energized after writing and made a commitment to myself to start blogging again.
Then we unpacked and unwound in our room. I put together a few snacks, including the guacamole, chips and fruit in the picture to the right and we enjoyed them on our balcony with sangria and wine, while watching the waterfall in the backyard.
After dinner, we sat by the fire pit, chatting with other guests, then headed for a late night dip in the infinity hot tub.
Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate that morning, so we cancelled our outdoor geocaching class and headed to our room for reading, crossword puzzles and coffee. Just what the doctor ordered! We relaxed until lunch time, then headed back to the Tree Dining Room for burgers and salad. I had the black bean burger and Fay had the turkey burger. As you will see, Tuesday turned out to be the non-stop eating day.
After dinner we headed to our watercolor class, where Fay and I spent two hours painting a landscape and laughing with our new dinner friends. Painting was followed by S'mores at the fire pit, then bed.
Wednesday morning began with breakfast, then an "Intro to Drawing class." This class was my favorite by far. I forgot how much I missed drawing! Fay's drawings impressed me as well. I think she discovered a new talent. In fact, on the way home from the resort, I found Fay pointing out tree shadow and bush shapes. She was obviously still in "drawing mode."
After drawing class, I met up with one of our dinner friends for yoga while Fay packed up the room. Yoga was just what I needed. It felt wonderful to stretch out my body. I definitely need to put yoga back into my daily routine.
We ended our stay at lunch with our dinner friends and a final round of fishing, then headed home.
Our short getaway was full of relaxation, delicious food, and fun activities. Most importantly, the trip presented us with numerous opportunities to heal and reconnect. I felt like myself again at Woodloch, which is exactly what I had hoped would happen. I can't wait to go back!
